Great to meet you!
I believe that we do the best we can with what we’ve learned from important relationships and life experiences. Sometimes, the strategies that once served us no longer work, leaving us feeling overwhelmed or stuck. I am a Counseling Psychologist providing individual psychotherapy to young adults and adults, with over 25 years of experience. I have worked in a wide variety of settings, including VA clinics, community mental health, and higher education healthcare centers.
A bit about my approach to therapy
Every person’s path is unique, so I tailor therapy to your specific needs. I draw from a range of evidence-based approaches, centering the therapy relationship. My interpersonal style is warm and engaged, and I will work directly with you to create a constructive relationship in our work. Sometimes the work of therapy can be painful and difficult, and the key is finding the right balance of challenge and support. I approach therapy through a culturally informed lens, recognizing how identity shapes mental health and the ways we experience the world. This is especially important for individuals who experience marginalization. I welcome and affirm clients from across the spectrums of ethnicity, sexuality, gender, ability, spirituality, and class.
What you can expect from our first session
My role as your therapist is to create a safe space where you can express yourself freely and gain greater self-awareness. Our work together begins with your goals, and I will ask a series of questions to help me better understand your current and previous experiences. We’ll collaborate to clarify the outcomes you seek and create a plan that feels both manageable and meaningful. When we meet we will talk about the length of treatment and frequency of our sessions. Growth is a process, and I will offer tools, resources, and encouragement to help you evolve into the life you envision.
